Daufuskie Island is a small residential sea island situated between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, GA. It is home to the publicly accessible Daufuski Resort and Breathe Spa with its two residential communities of Melrose and Bloody Point, as well as Haig Point, a 1,050-acre private residential community accessible by a private ferry service and navigable only by electric carts. Other residential communities include Oakridge Plantation and the unincorporated Historic District. The area offers breath-taking views of Calibogue Sound as well as the Harbour Town Lighthouse of Sea Pines.

Daufuskie has a unique and varied history dating back to 7,000 B.C. when the first inhabitants called the island home. They were followed by the Cusabo (Cue-saab-O) and Yemasee (Yem-muss-E) Indians before the British settled in the early 1700's. The two groups clashed regularly and at one point a band of English scouts surprised an Indian party near the island's southern tip. A deadly skirmish ensued with scores of Indians killed earning the site the name it holds today - Bloody Point. During the 1700 and 1800's, the island was known for a special strand of lush soft cotton known as "Sea Island Cotton". It was said that Queen Victoria had her handkerchiefs made only of "Sea Island Cotton."
